14/02/1474 Empire at War: Siena under siege

Empire at War: Siena under siege

Two weeks ago the Turks and Sicilians began their invasion into the Empire: an invasion without cause and without casus belli. What started as a sudden and unprovoked incursion quickly escalated into a broader conflict that now threatens the stability of the southern provinces.

Only a few days after the first Turko-Sicilian troops crossed the borders, the Venetians declaredi their intention to invade the Empire as well. They marched shortly thereafter into Mantua, destroying the local garrison force. Thus far, this coalition which could be called the Turko-Sicilian-Venetian axis of evi, shows no intention of withdrawing from Imperial lands and their armies occupy key positions in Mantua, Siena, Santa Fiore and Grosseto.

Yet there are whispers of diplomacy amid the thunder of war drums. It is rumoured that peace negotiations have taken place between high-placed leaders of both sides. Multiple dignitaries are said to have convened discreetly, offering a glimmer of hope that reason may soon prevail and peace return to the Empire.

In the meantime, events on the ground continue to unfold. A Sicilian army has taken control of the townhall of Santa Fiora, marking it the first imperial town to fall in this war. Meanwhile, the siege of Siena drags on relentlessly. Supplies grow scarcer with each passing day, and it is only a matter of time before either the defenders surrender or before the Turks give up and leave in shame.

On the western front of the Empire, further unrest brews. Several skirmishes have erupted between the criminal organisations Clair-Obscur (CO) and Brigate Internazionali Libertarie (BIL) and the vigilant border forces of Savoie. Reports suggest that CO and BIL had been preparing an assault on Milan, a threat now neutralised by the Savoie forces.

Gianlupo (representing BIL) said, after assaulting the Savoie forces, that they planned to go fight ONE in Portugal. Observers cannot help but wonder whether his compass failed him, as his forces were travelling from Berry to the south-east (Milan) instead of the south-west (Portugal).

Thus, over the span of two weeks, the Empire finds itself besieged yet unbroken. The Turks proclaim themselves being brave, righteous and proud with honour. But will they show this on the battlefield, or will they resort to the actions of barbarous infidels?
